CUPCO x MISHKA = LAST GASP!

CUPCO’S penultimate show “LAST GASP” is in BROOKLYN at MISHKA NYC.
Here is the blurb from MISHKA!!

We’re excited to announce that the Japan- and Australia-based designers, illustrators, animators, and doll-makers known best as Cupco! will debut their latest exhibit, Last Gasp, right here at Мишка’s NYC store at 350 Broadway on June 17th. Cupco! is the brainchild of husband and wife team Lucas and Mayumi Temby. Together, they create visuals of cartoon-style monsters and miniatures in various mediums which are half-disgusting, half-endearing, and 100% fascinating.

Cupco! has accomplished a lot since they started up in 2004 – they’ve shown their work all over the globe, released a collaborative high-top with Converse, and created animations for that bizarro children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba that you watched once when you were stoned. Between creating a custom pair of sneakers for one of the world’s most iconic brands and delighting the nation’s children, Cupco! can claim a pretty diverse and rad list of milestones.

Now they can add another to that list: exhibiting a huge collection of dolls at Мишка’s NYC store! Each of the dolls that Cupco! makes are extremely limited-edition – so much so, in fact, that Cupco! only does single runs of each character that they make, including the ones that will be on display as part of their never-before-seen Last Gasp exhibit.

With this in mind, it’s easy to see that it can be tough to get a bunch of Cupco! works together in one place at a time, let alone ones that are part of a brand-new collection. These are just a taste of what will be on display in the upcoming show, so it’d be in your best interest to come check them out at 350 Broadway while you have the chance.

Cupco! have created over 500 custom hand-stitched dolls, using over 10,000 meters of cotton thread in the process. Each doll has a removable head that can be mixed and matched with any of their other doll bodies. It’s like 3-D paper dolls for adult art freaks. That’s a lot of stitchery! Somehow, they’ve also found the time to release tons of acclaimed design and illustration work and raise a slew of money for Japan in the process.

The last time Cupco! showed anywhere in the vicinity of New York City was way back when they first began releasing work together seven years ago, so you can bet that this is going to be a highly-anticipated artistic event. It’s also a great excuse to come check out our new Summer 2011 collection in person. Between Cupco! and Мишка, you’ll definitely get your fill of top-quality design.
